David surprised me yesterday by inviting me to Charleston’s famed Cajun Festival. To be honest I had never heard of a Cajun Festival before so I had no idea what to expect. And if I am really honest I never thought that Cajun was a culture of people from Louisiana. I thought it was just a spice, as embarrassing as that is.
The festival had live zydeco music by http://www.rouxdubayou.com/ & http://www.jefferybroussard.com/, a crawfish eating contest, amazing food, and fun low country crafts. There was a rock wall and rides for kids. I genuinely had a good time.
Now about eating an alligator, I was a vegetarian for five years but when I got married I realize I cannot survive on a vegetarian diet. I still can eat meat very well but yesterday I ate alligator. To be honest it was kind disturbing to think that I ate that but I’m choosing to forget that it’s an animal as horrible as that seems. But at the same time it is kind of weird and cool to think I ate me some Gater. It was like sausage with the game of dear. Now I did have Cajun gumbo and jambalaya and it was amazing! And to wash it all down I had some homemade donuts.
Anyways. I had a great time discovering a new culture and if you ever have the chance to go to one don’t hesitate.
